Abstract:
Political merchandise acts as a mirror of society’s feelings about humor and consumerism, in
addition to political opinion. Through the lens of political merchandise, Politics, Humor, & Consumerism aims
to discuss, identify, and understand consumerism using parody. The topic limits itself to both historical
and current political merchandise in the United States. The project itself lends itself to three separate but connected projects including a typeface, a performance, and a final sculptural installation.
The typeface:
inspired by guerilla communication using
previous iconic letterforms in US political campaigns.
The
performance piece: using the previous typeface and screenprinting it onto the skin on people’s
bodies. Then the prints will be recorded on
film to then be put together into a performance video piece.
The installation: displays the performance piece video in a sculptural installation, both digitally and traditionally.
